We all love books, right? This time, I’d like to show you some of the books we at Bonomi are currently reading or that we’ve recently read and found useful or interesting.

For starters, here’s the book that turned out to be crucial in the way we work: User Story Mapping by Jeff Patton. It’s a handy guide on how to frame the problem you want to solve with your product or feature, get a map of the big picture, explore the so called user stories in depth, then make strategic decisions on feature releases. The best thing about this book is that it provides you both simple step-by-step guidance on how to build a user story map and lengthy case studies that help you better understand certain parts of the process.

Next up is a book with a proposal no less than turning people into teams. Behind the ambitious title there is a simple idea: talk about stuff and make decisions together, whether it’s defining your business hours or the scope of our duties. The twist is in the method: the authors recommend visualizing every piece of input, and putting them on a board. By visualizing practically everything we say, we get a better overview and can work out the necessary compromises or make tough decisions a lot easier. It’s written by a married couple so you gotta trust them on this one!

The third book is from the author of The Lean Startup, Eric Ries. This one it titled The Startup Way, and puts emphasis on entrepreneurship. Ries argues that every business, from small startups to the biggest corporations would benefit from having employees dedicated to being entrepreneurs. It’s an insightful roadmap for sustainable growth that will prove itself useful in the near future of Bonomi.
